"Old Havana" by Shane Gross
Theme: Global Travel
I imagine this scene could have just as easily been captured in Havana, Cuba in 1960 as it was now in 2017. It's like a time capsule.
"Enchanted" Forest by Nicholas Taffs
Just before heading off to bed I received an email alert forecasting aurora activity expected throughout the night. After much debate, I decided to head out in spite of the fact I had to work in the morning. As I left the lights of the city I knew I made the right choice. The northern lights had fully lit the sky to the north. I was rather unprepared for the event and did not have any ideal locations to capture the full extent of the aurora. By the time I made it to my location, the aurora was lighting up the sky from north to south in the most brilliant display I have ever experienced. Just before I packed it in for the night I was walking back to my car through a pine forest and took one last look up and captured this image.
"Laundry Day" by Robert Ganz
Driving through the Maritimes, I saw a clothesline out with nothing but dozens of colourful caps.
"Bow's Head" by David Youn
My recent work is focused on playing with "still" in still life. I want to demonstrate the dynamic nature of Calgary. Both its beauty and its vibrant energy. There are many takes of the Bow Building sculpture "wonderland". This is my take.
"Smoke in his Eyes" by Jennifer Rutledge
A lovely gentlemen stopped to allow me to take his photograph while he was preparing dinner over a small outdoor fire near Dasada, Gujurat, India.
"Native Pride" by Wendy Royer
Churchill Square in downtown Edmonton, hosts many festivals and this fellow was enjoying the activities with his friends.
"Street Cleaner" by Wendy Royer
In Old Havana this man's job is to walk the streets with a broom and garbage can.
"At the Precipice" by Richard Vandegriend
There is something about standing at the Precipice of Dettifos in Iceland, that without any railings and barricades, truly connects you with the raw power of the falls. Reported to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe, the deafening roar of falling water and gentle spray of mist on your face further draws you in. The woman in the foreground provides great perspective of the experience.
"Kolmanskop" by Robert Postma
This is an eerie place. Kolmanskop is an abandoned diamond town in Namibia. Empty since the 1950's, the desert has begun to reclaim the buildings. I was alone save for the wind in these buildings that could tell stories if the walls could speak.
"A Nightly Scramble" by Richard Vandegriend
The Shinjuku crossing in Tokyo provides a quintessential experience and glimpse into to bustle of the city. The image was difficult to capture as I struggled to find a unobtrusive spot for my tripod amongst the flow of pedestrians. Despite it being nighttime, there was so much light coming off the billboards and buildings that I had needed a neutral density filter to sufficiently slow my shutter speed to create the blur of the pedestrians, creating the sense of movement.
"Circle of Life" Jennifer Kucherawy
In a peaceful transition of life into death, standing motionless in the Sabi Sands of South Africa, this male impala seemed to offer no resistance to the powerful jaws of this male leopard.
Celestial Dance by Robert Postma
Taken in the far north of the Yukon, the aurora dance quickly and silently above the Fishing Branch River. I've seen many displays in my time but the pinks in this one were the best I have seen. They lasted about an hour as well. Wow indeed!
